Yahweh (God) has always had a special people although all people are His creation. Those special people have been the descendants of the twelve tribes, which are descended from Abraham, Issac, and Jacob.
As the Creator of the universe, he brought order to all things. When He delivered the descendants of Jacob from Egypt, He had Moses become their leader. At Mount Sinai, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments as law for His people.
“2 “I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery.
3 “You must not have any other god but me.
4 “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea.” Exodus 20:2-4 New Living Translation
To define an idol it is anything that we seek more than God the Father.
Merriam Webster Dictionary has the following definitions:
3“1 : an object of extreme devotion a movie idol also : ideal sense 2
2 : a representation or symbol of an object of worship broadly : a false god” https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/idol After the Exodus, Israelites offended Yahweh by worshipping idols. Thus, breaking the first commandment.
As part of their idol worship, they sacrificed children to these idols.
Yahweh confronted them about this practice:
“20 “Then you took your sons and daughters—the children you had borne to me—and sacrificed them to your gods. Was your prostitution not enough? 21 Must you also slaughter my children by sacrificing them to idols? 22 In all your years of adultery and detestable sin, you have not once remembered the days long ago when you lay naked in a field, kicking about in your own blood.” Ezekiel 16:20-22 New Living Translation
Israel paid a high price for idolatry. They angered Yahweh and he punished them.
Today many people participate in abortions, which is the same as the offering of children to idols mentioned in Ezekiel. The difference is that the person carrying the child is now the idol.
She is offering a sacrifice to herself, so she may live her life as she pleases. She has made herself her own god. She has not only broken the first commandment but also the sixth commandment. For the baby she is sacrificing is a living human being. Yahweh knew this human before conception. He had a plan for the child’s life. God loves the child that was killed. That child will dwell with Him forever. The mother will have to face judgement for her sins.
